In my research works I consider the historical personality of John Philopon, his path of life and role in the development of new European science: challenging the doctrine of the eternity of the world and promoting the idea of the unity of thought of Plato and Aristotle. The so-called "project" of Philopon. I just started to study this subject and my knowledge in this area is insufficient. For a more complete disclosure of many problems that connects with this interesting person I have to do some efforts, because "Philopon" is translated (from Greek) as "hardworking", therefore it is necessary to learn him with zeal and love.
John Philopon is an early Byzantine neo-Platonic philosopher, a Christian. He lived in the 6th century in Alexandria. He studied at the school of Alexandria under Ammon. Just under the influence of Ammonium he began to study philosophy. He was a supporter of Monophysite and tritheism.
John of Alexandria produced a large number of works on grammar, arithmetic, philosophy, rhetoric and theology. He is also the author of many commentaries on the works of Aristotle. In total, there are at least 40 works by Philopon. He published a commentary on Aristotle by Ammonius. And also had a number of original works.
The main business of philoponus ' life was that he criticized the concept of the eternity of the world, created by Proclus Lycaeus. He turned for arguments in support of his idea to "Timaeus", which he interpreted as a description of the creation of the world in time (creationism).
It is important to note that Philopon's project is based on a new concept of space and matter, as well as on the theory of impetus, which does not follow from the Christian worldview (according to Prof. Christian Wildberg).
We can talk about a whole set of factors that influenced the emergence of the revolutionary "project" of Philopon. There are specificity scientific method of Philopon, and Christian belief, turned for Philopon an inspiring factor in his creativity, and struggle for being head of schools, and assertion in it a new, Christian on their premises, philosophy (under preserving traditional philosophical methodology), and, finally, Philopon`s focus on physics and cosmology under almost full absence of theoretical interest to ethics, asceticism and mystery problems.
